Yr9 Business and Economics Homework - Mr Goodwin's Class


  1. Pick a product of your choice.

  2. Put together a poster that highlights how and why the product is worth more than cost of the resources (added value)

You might include:

a) Details of the types of resources used to create the product/service (i.e. raw materials)
b) The reasons why the price of the product/service is greater than the combined cost of buying the raw materials (an example might be the fact that the product has a strong brand image)
c) Any images that are appropriate to your poster

BTEC Business Summer Work

You are to produce a PowerPoint presentation of no more than 5 minutes about the Marketing activities of a company of your choice. It should include:

a) Brief information about the company you have chosen
b) Examples of the ways in which it markets its products/services (remember, marketing is not just advertising)
c) Identification of the strengths and weaknesses of the methods the company uses to market its products/services
d) A justification of whether you think the methods the company uses to market its products/services are effective.

Be prepared to show and explain your presentation in your first lesson in September.

Yr9 Business and Economics Homelearning - Mr Goodwin's class

Homelearning this week is to research two of the companies listed below in preparation for your assessed piece of work that begins on Monday 27th June.

1. Select one pair of companies from the list below:
a) British Airways and Virgin Atlantic
b) Topshop and River Island
c) Coca Cola and Pepsi
d) Sony and Nintendo

2. Research how they compete. You might want to consider things like:
a) Price levels
b) Levels/Examples of quality
c) The range of products/variations that the company produces
d) Popularity of the brand
e) Examples of After Sales Service

In your research, you might consider the strengths and weaknesses of each company, and research who is the most competitive (best at what they do).

For Monday, you should bring in any research you have gathered on paper, via e-mail or on a memory stick. You will be producing a document that examines the nature of competition between your two chosen firms.
